Enter & View: Leawood Manor Care Home
About the Report
We gathered feedback from 35 people, including residents living at the home on the day, their relatives, and staff.
Overall, residents and relatives spoke warmly about Leawood Manor, and above all about the people who work there. Staff know residents as individuals, and the friendships residents form with one another are one of the home's real strengths. Many residents told us the best thing about moving in was no longer being alone.
The visit also found that the home does well for residents who can speak up for themselves, and less reliably for those who cannot, such as people who are bed-bound or living with advanced dementia. HWNN made five recommendations:
Recommendations
- Identify and reach out to the residents who are easy to miss.
- Help residents who miss having a role feel useful again.
- Review and document how personal care is delivered, to protect residents' dignity and privacy.
- Make sure staff hear back on the concerns they raise.
- Make sure families can easily find how to raise a concern.
Leawood Manor was provided with a copy of the finished report and accepted all five recommendations. In response, the home said:
"We recognise the positive impact that having a meaningful role can have on a resident's wellbeing and sense of purpose."
