We collected information from 31 people including more than half of the residents living there on the day, their loved ones, and the staff to gather insights into what works well and what can be improved. Overall, residents spoke favourably about the care they are receiving, with choice and caring staff being the standout features of the feedback received. Relatives supported these findings, and staff demonstrated a good understanding of person centred care and feel supported and satisfied in their roles.
Our team saw many examples of good practice including the introduction of an aviary based on one resident’s interest, enriching the environment for all. Although the service is providing good care the feedback received highlighted a few areas that could be improved to enhance or maintain the quality of care being provided. For example, some people told us they felt lonely and would appreciate spending more quality time with the staff. The team also noticed that although there were a variety of personalised and tailored activities on offer, the schedule was not accessible to all making it difficult for them to know what was happening.
HWNN made six recommendations in total:
- Make the activities schedule easy to see and understand.
- Support residents to stay oriented with time and routine.
- Keep fall alarms working and easy to reach.
- Adapt the dining area to meet growing occupancy needs.
- Reintroduce opportunities for spiritual reflection.
- Protect staff time for meaningful connection with residents outside of formal care duties.
Annesley Lodge were provided with a copy of the finished report, and they said
