Healthwatch Nottingham and Nottinghamshire visited Parkside Nursing Home to understand what life is like for residents and to observe the quality of care, environment, and overall experience. The visit focused on how safe and comfortable residents felt, how staff supported people, and whether the environment met people’s needs. Overall, the home was found to be calm, clean and supportive, with positive feedback from residents about their care and staff.

- The environment was spacious and easy to move around, including for people using mobility aids
- The home felt calm, homely and welcoming
- Outdoor space was a positive feature, including access to a garden area
- Residents said they felt safe living at the home
- Staff were consistently described as kind, supportive and a key strength of the service
- Staff were observed interacting with residents in a respectful and caring way
- Residents appeared comfortable, settled and relaxed during the visit
- No immediate concerns were identified in relation to safety or day-to-day care
Recommendations
- Introduce a staff photo board in reception showing names and job roles to improve visibility for residents and visitors
- Install memory boxes outside residents’ rooms to support people living with dementia to recognise their personal space
- Improve toilet signage by adding clear images on doors to support people with dementia or reading difficulties
