Enter and View: Rampton Hospital

Healthwatch Nottingham and Nottinghamshire carried out an Enter and View visit to Rampton Hospital to understand the experiences of patients, observe the care environment and identify opportunities to improve services. The visit formed part of our statutory role to gather independent feedback and support improvements in health and social care.

The visit found examples of compassionate care and positive relationships between staff and patients. Patients spoke about feeling supported by staff, and the hospital offered a range of therapeutic activities and opportunities to promote recovery. The report also identified areas where patients' experiences could be strengthened, particularly around communication, involvement in care and the hospital environment.

Recommendations

The report recommends that the hospital should:

  • Improve communication with patients so they are kept informed and involved in decisions about their care.
  • Continue to develop meaningful activities that support recovery, wellbeing and independence.
  • Review the hospital environment to make communal areas more welcoming and comfortable for patients.
  • Ensure patients know how to raise concerns and provide feedback about their care.
  • Continue to work with patients to improve services through regular engagement and co-production.
  • Build on existing good practice by regularly reviewing patient experiences and acting on feedback.

Key themes:

  • Patient experience
  • Respect, dignity and compassionate care
  • Communication and involvement in care
  • Therapeutic activities and recovery
  • Hospital environment
  • Continuous service improvement
