How We Process Issues

At Healthwatch Nottingham and Nottinghamshire (HWNN), we gather feedback and concerns about health and social care from various sources, including our website, social media, events, phone calls, and meetings.

To help guide our decision-making, we have created this brief outline and an accompanying flowchart. These tools serve as a general guide to determine what we may or may not consider an issue. This includes evaluating whether the concern falls within our remit and whether we have the ability to take action or achieve meaningful change. By using these guidelines, we can better prioritise and address the most significant issues that impact the health and social care services in our community.

  • What is an Issue? Any concern related to health and social care brought to us.
  • Significant Issues:
    • Important, urgent, or affecting multiple people or vulnerable groups.
    • Examples: GP practice closures, service disruptions, safety risks.
  • Single-Person Issues: We act if a person’s care falls below acceptable standards and their safety is at risk.
  • Statutory Duty: We must raise significant issues with service providers and expect a response within 20 to 30 working days.
  • Non-Significant Issues: We also review issues we can impact, even if they’re not significant.
  • Decision-Making Tool: Our flowchart helps us prioritise which issues to act on.
